The John Fisher Old Boys’ Association Golf Day was held on the 8th September 2006 at our usual venue of Knole Park Golf Club, Sevenoaks.
This year’s event was held in beautiful weather and attracted a field of 26 players. This was the 33rd year that this event has been staged and the 29th year it has been held at Knole Park . Michael Whale won the Pride of Peaks Hill Trophy this year with a stableford score of 33 points, with Robert Whicher the runner up also with 33 points but losing the trophy on countback.
The Coughlan’s Challenge Shield foursomes competition was won by Mike Drury and Hamish Keith with 44 points. Duncan Ponikwer and Alan Willets were second with 40 points.
The day is always played in a great spirit and there is a great deal of laughter on the course and even more so in the bar afterwards. Unfortunately, there were one or two absentees among the regulars mostly through no fault of their own. Tony Avery did not feel well enough to attend after his recent brush with cancer and various other ailments and operations. We wish you well Tony. Rev Anthony Whale was conducting a wedding that day, which seems a bit inconsiderate of the couple he was marrying. In any event this gave young Michael a chance to win instead. Colin De’Ath was also absent as he had to go to Carcassone to take part in the vendages but has promised to attend next year. Peter Cockburn made a welcome return and we look forward to seeing him again next year also.
If any other golf-playing Old Boys would like to play in next year’s event please get in touch with Mike Drury at 11 Warwick Road , Coulsdon, Surrey , CR5 2EF . Phone 020 8660 0452 or by email at Michael.email@example.com
The next event for golfers is on the 27th October 2006 , an individual stableford competition for The Woodcote Trophy, which was presented by the Ockenden family. This will be held at Woodcote Park Golf Club, the same venue as the dinner for the over 30 section held the same evening. Please let Mike Farrin or Colin de’Ath know if you are able to attend.
